This rare instrument is a Dunnett Carter McLean Balance 6.5x14 snare drum.  It is numbered 5 out of 25.  The shell was made by Paul Warry, an Australian drum maker who founded Metro Drums, a boutique drum company.  This shell is made of alternating plies of flamed walnut and Queensland maple, with Queensland maple reinforcement rings.  The batter edge of the shell was well rounded, for warmth, while the snare side edge was cut sharp for sensitivity.  The drum features aluminum tube lugs, George Way double flange hoops (very similar in weight and stiffness to DW True Hoops), and Dunnett R7 throw off, with quick-change butt.  The Dunnett R7 is widely, incorrectly advertised as a 3-position throw off, but it's actually a 4-position device.  With the R7, you can have the snare wires OFF or ON in 3 different levels of snare wire tension.
