This is a gorgeous solid tigerwood stave 8x14 snare drum. It was made by Jimmy Krueger, owner of CCW (Custom Cut Woodworking) Drums, in Wisconsin. It features a 1/2" thick shell, with the center carved out to 1/4", Tama MLS50A/B linear drive strainer, solid brass classic tube lugs, and Tama diecast hoops.
Here are pics of the shell when it was originally formed from 30 indiviual solid pieces (staves) of tigerwood. Jimmy is such an artisan, he is able to piece the staves together in such a way, that the shell looks like one solid piece of wood.
After all of the staves are glued and clamped, Jimmy cuts down the shell to the correct dimensions, which is called turning. Notice how the shell looks more refined.
Here is a pic of the shell, after the bearing edges and snare beds are cut, the protective satin finish is applied, all holes are drilled for hardware, and the CCW badge is affixed. The shell is ready to be transformed into a complete instrument.
After final assembly, Matt tuned the drum, and immediately mounted it on his drumset. The Tama Star snare stand easily lowers enough to comfortably play a 8" deep snare drum. There's even room for a 9" deep snare - noted for the future.
